Help those who help us in Philly: PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET!!!

As some of you may know, I did youth outreach for Philly Against Santorum in the last election, much of which was done at the concerts of Philly's premiere all-ages concert promoter: Sean Agnew's R5 Productions. Sean could not have been more supportive of the work that we did, and he not only let us in to shows to talk with kids and persuade them to vote, and vote liberal/progressive/Democratic, but he actively helped push kids our, and the polls, way by sending out e-mails on our behalf and by lending us a bit of his amazingly large cachet of cultural credibility.

And now, Sean and R5 need our help. Tomorrow is R5's HUGE annual Punk Rock Flea Market, where you can buy all sorts of goodies for the young, and young at heart, on your Christmas list. Don't let the name fool you, it's not all punk rock merch being sold- I bought my wife an amazing (and unbelievably cheap) handmade necklace and earring set, and there are items for people of every age and interest. Please consider coming out tomorrow to help R5 continue to throw amazing shows and enable groups like PAS to reach out to youth from all around Eastern PA!  Details are below the fold:

THIS Saturday December 16th 10am to 5:00pm
At The Starlight Ballroom a.k.a. Club Polaris
(460 N 9th Street / Just Below 9th & Spring Garden)
All Ages / 21+ To Drink / $3 entry donation

Hellos -
R5 is hosting their big semi-annual event this Saturday (dec 16th) at The Starlight Ballroom. From 10am to 5pm!

For those who are not in the know it is R5's most popular reoccurring event - with 120 tables of old records, clothes, art, music, food, junk, bicycles, stereo equipment, instruments, automobiles, tools, posters, furniture, computers, skateboards and whatever else the 100 sellers can fit on the ballroom floor.

In addition to the normal flea market stuff there will also be a full bar and food service kitchen to make the day go by a little faster as well as :

THE FIRST ANNUAL R5 WII BOWL CHALLENGE

with a gigantic projection screen/TV with the new technological sensation - The Nintendo Wii. It uses a motion sensor that can actually register the slight curve in your throw/wrist etc. Check it out here :

They are charging $3 per game. The person with the highest score at the end of the day wins 50% of the admission fee (so if 200 people bowl - you win $300 in cash!) .

The whole point of all of this is to raise funds to purchase necessary equipment and supplies to ensure that all ages shows continue to remain a reality at The First Unitarian Church and other venues in Philadelphia. For the past year it's mainly been towards their annual $16,000 insurance payment.

At the R5 table they will also be selling twenty "10 R5 Show Passes" for $80. This pass will get you into ANY 10 upcoming R5 shows (even sold out ones) in 2007. A perfect holiday gift for your friend, brother, sister, son, girlfriend, boyfriend, cousin, dog etc. Again there are only 20 of them ...so don't sleep !

See You There !
